New Game Plus & second playthrough
Phantom Blade Zero has New Game Plus after a finished run. The director says weapons from late and hidden bosses are mostly meant for it, and 66 Days — the permadeath mode — is picked at the start of a second playthrough.
What New Game Plus is for
Many weapons drop from bosses, so those taken from late bosses have little room in a first run. The team finished all of them anyway, with more motion capture and more complex mechanics, so they could shine on a second playthrough. The final boss's weapon and a hidden boss's weapon are close to collectibles.
What carries over into New Game Plus — levels, weapons, collectibles — has not been detailed yet.
66 Days on a second run
- Unlocked by finishing the game on Pathbreaker or Hellwalker.
- Keeps its own save, separate from your normal game.
- Saves automatically at bells, with no manual save and no reload.
- 66 lives: running out plays a short ending and closes the run for good.
Boss rematches
A mode called Li Wulin lets you refight bosses you have already beaten as often as you like, and opens hidden bosses. How and when it unlocks has not been shown.
