Director's post: weapons level to 30, a wooden sword can finish the game, and 66 Days has no manual saves
On the original September 9 launch date, Soulframe Liang detailed weapon growth, how 66 Days saves, the casting of Soul and Zuo Shang, and fighting Mó Yuan.

Weapons grow to level 30
Every weapon has its own growth path, and the director says the same weapon at level 1 and level 30 can play completely differently because upgrades unlock traits, not just numbers. Weapons counter particular enemies, but one weapon can carry a whole run — even the weakest, a wooden sword.
Late weapons are for the second run
Many weapons drop from bosses, so those taken from late bosses have little room in a first playthrough; the final boss's weapon and a hidden boss's weapon are close to collectibles. The team finished all of them anyway, with more motion capture and more complex mechanics, for New Game Plus. One example: White Shadow, a long, slender blade obtained late in the game.
How 66 Days works
On a normal run the days counter is story only. 66 Days is picked on a second playthrough, keeps a separate save, saves automatically whenever you touch a bell and has no manual save or reload. Running out of days plays a short ending, and the run becomes history. The 2018 concept made that the only way to play; it was dropped as too punishing.
Casting and Mó Yuan
Soul is played by Yucheng, a player of the original Rainblood; Zuo Shang by Zhang Xince, a film student who turned up with a high-level account from the mobile Phantom Blade 3. The director adds that Soul fights Mó Yuan several times — and in the last fight, perhaps the only way to win is to forget everything.
